Dr Katrina Green

Dr Katrina Green is a medical science lecturer in the School of Medicine, University of Wollongong and a research scientist at the Centre for Translational Neuroscience, Illawarra Health and Medical Research Institute. Dr Green has a PhD in neuroscience/neuroendocrinology, awarded for her research on the mechanisms underlying the obesity and diabetes side-effects of common antipsychotic medications. She has 11 years of medical research experience and currently leads a research team that investigate novel methods to improve the pharmacological treatment of mental illness and seek to understand the neurobiology of serious psychiatric illnesses. She has served as an ad-hoc scientific advisor to various organisations, including the National Health & Medical Research Institute (Australian Government), Czech Science Foundation, Schizophrenia Research Institute and Neuroendocrinology Journal. Dr Green has a particular interest in exploring the potential use of cannabinoids as novel medications, with recent work on the use of cannabidiol (CBD) to improve cognition and social withdrawal in schizophrenia.
